Dear Gossips,

Yesterday in my post about Ruth Negga, my pick for best dressed at the Globes, I was so into her outfit, I forgot to write my thoughts about why her partner, Dominic Cooper, wasn’t with her for Golden Globe weekend. She attended the Globes with her Loving co-star Joel Edgerton. Dominic was in London today for the BAFTA nominations announcement alongside Sophie Turner of Game Of Thrones who, by the way, was at the Globes and flew back immediately. Are Ruth and Dominic still together?

La La Land leads the BAFTAs with 11 nominations and Arrival and Nocturnal Animals follow with 9. Sarah’s been bitching, quite rightly, about Nocturnal Animals being overlooked by many of the awards boards. So it’s encouraging that BAFTA is recognising Tom Ford’s achievement. The film is gorgeous and gritty and it stays with you. If you haven’t already, go see it.

Anyway, Ruth was also nominated for a BAFTA. But not as Best Actress, as she was at the Golden Globes and the Spirit Awards but in the Rising Star Award category. She won the same prize at the Palm Springs Film Festival a couple of weeks ago. I need you to tell me how to feel about this. Here are the other nominees for BAFTA Rising Star:

Lucas Hedges, 20
Tom Holland, 20
Anya Taylor-Joy, 20
Laia Costa, 31 (she started acting in 2012)

Ruth is 35 years old. She’s been acting for almost 15 years. And it’s an honour to be nominated, of course it is. I guess what I’m asking is whether or not Ruth has had the same opportunities. Like, Tom Holland? By the time he’s her age, he might have several nominations in the Best Lead or Supporting categories. Take for example Emily Blunt. Emily Blunt is currently 33 years old, younger than Ruth Negga. She is nominated for a BAFTA in the Best Actress proper category for her work in The Girl On The Train. Emily Blunt was a Rising Star BAFTA nominee… TEN YEARS AGO.

Just something to consider. Let me know your thoughts.
