Ryan Gosling was at the Hollywood Film Awards last night to present to Saoirse Ronan. He directed her in Lost River. She was given the New Hollywood Award. And that’s basically why the Hollywood Film Awards are totally ridiculous. Since when is Saoirse Ronan “new”? She was nominated for an Oscar (for Atonement) SEVEN YEARS AGO. And she has a very, very, VERY strong chance at another nomination for Best Actress this time in Brooklyn.

As I wrote a few weeks ago, I loved Brooklyn. Click here for a refresher. I loved it as an immigrant story. I loved it as a tribute to my parents’ immigrant experience. You don’t have to be Irish to appreciate this film, although I’m sure, if you are Irish, you’ll fall for it even harder. And you’ll definitely fall for Saoirse, if you haven’t already.

Ryan Gosling, clearly, is an admirer.

On the pronunciation of her name? He says “Ser-sha”. I’m going to get all Duana Irish on you and tell you that Saoirse told me it’s actually “Seer-sha”. A long “e” sound.

Also, and I know this is a mega sin, but, like, he’s not as cute as he used to be, right?
