Bruno won the box office this weekend with a $30 million opening, further securing Sacha Baron Cohen’s status as a major power player in Hollywood.

Did you see Bruno?

I have not yet. Will do this week. But I did receive this very interesting message from Ljubica below:

So, my husband I went to see Bruno on Saturday (we live in Phoenix, but we are from Toronto). We bought the tickets at the movie theater and got carded (we are both in mid 30s). I did not think much of it until the cashier made sure we know that this was going to be a rude and disturbing movie. Then we walked in, showed our tickets and got carded again! We were told again that this is a disturbing movie. When we got to the theater, we were stopped by 3 people including a security guard and carded again.

By this time I was slightly agitated and asked why they were carding so many times. After giving me some standard answers and me probing more to make some sense of the situation, the security guard said that Harkins did not want to show this movie but had to so they are making sure that people know how rude it was.

Did they card people at the theatre for I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry? That film was just as offensive.

Anyway, here’s Sacha in New York the night before and arriving in LA with Isla Fisher and his daughter Olive, home to celebrate Bruno’s success Hollywood styles. Ugh. It’s the only thing – why does he have to live there?
