Love the cap sleeve. The cap sleeve works at any age. It worked for Reese Witherspoon at her first Oscars, it works for Sally Field here at her, I dunno, how many Golden Globes has she attended? The colour is lovely on her. And the cleavage too. And her face isn’t jacked. And at 66 she still lights you up inside when she smiles.
Many of you objected, almost violently, to Anne Hathaway last night. We’ll get to Annie later. The best part of her speech though was the tribute to Sally Field. I wrote last week - click here for a refresher - that Annie and Sally, the Princess of Genovia and the Flying Nun, could have parallel careers. “One was Gidget and the other was a Princess. Both have been perceived at one time or another as obsequious people-pleasers (“You like me!”) and both have been more apologetic than aggressive about the criticisms they’ve received.” Sally’s the best model Annie could have. In spite of how annoying she was tonight, I still think it could happen.
