A Venetian setting, two masked balls, an elaborate themed menu, Salma Hayek said recently that she thought spending $2 million on the occasion would be ridiculous. Well, it didn’t cost quite $2 million. But it certainly wasn’t cheap.

And her wedding guest list was impressive. Many, many A listers, a few Bs, some politicians, socialites – all there for Salma? Well…

She married a man who runs the company that owns Balenciaga and Gucci. Pinault’s father is the 39th richest man in the world and also owns the Palazzo Grassi, site of the reception, M Pinault Sr displays his personal art collection. Dude, that’s a whole other level of wealth. And Salma’s celebrity friends now have even more reason to be nice to her.

Among the notables – ex boyfriend Edward Norton arriving, Charlize Theron determinedly keeping her face hidden, flashing those famous long legs with boyfriend Stuart Townsend, Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal (they’ve made another movie together – have you seen it?) Ashley Judd fresh off her husband’s recent win at the Long Beach Grand Prix, Anna Wintour, naturally, and Salma’s bestie Penelope Cruz, so beautiful in blue, with Javier Bardem. There was speculation they had split because it had been ages since they’d been photographed together. Obviously not.
