When Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey were together, she’d always say they were “friends”. Not “just friends”, but “friends”. And still. Here are Sandy and Camila Alves in New Orleans yesterday on a play date. I love this. I love that this is possible. I also love that she is actually NICE. That she’s always been nice, and real nice as opposed to Hollywood fake America’s Sweetheart nice. Reese Witherspoon and Julia Roberts have America’s Sweetheart nice reputations. This... doesn’t exactly match up with their personalities.

You know who else Sandy did the “friends” but not “just” thing with?

God I wish we spent more time on that back then. Sandy and Ryan Gosling, GOD I wish we followed that more closely.

Here’s Sandy in an interview with Cosmopolitan in 2003:

Cosmo: So are you friends with Ryan Gosling, your Murder By Numbers costar?

S: Let me see if I can answer that politically and correctly. We’re friends.

C: So if I were to add the word just…

S: If you were to add the word just, it would probably be a bit of a lie. So I’d say were friends. [laughs]

C: What have you learned from Ryan?

S: To chill. I live my life at a manic pace, and he’s taught me to disregard all that isn’t important. He’s like a little Buddha. (Source Sandra Bullock Interveiw February 2003 - Cosmopolitan)

Anyway my point is, one day maybe Ryan G will get married and have babies and Sandy will invite his wife out with the kids and they’ll go on a train ride and it’ll be all civilised and classy.
