I wish it didn’t take the holidays to motivate us all to be better human beings, but it’s better than nothing. So while we are all snuggled up in our cozy PJs, eating an endless supply of food from our fridge, and doing something as inane as mulling over which snapchat filter you should use, let’s think about all the people that will be sleeping in the streets during the coldest time of the year.
I want to introduce you to this very progressive company out of Detroit called The Empowerment Plan. Their mission is to permanently elevate families from the generational cycle of homelessness. And their way of making a difference is with the EMPWR Coat. And dudes, this is one superman of a coat! It not only transforms into a sleeping bag at night but also converts into an over-the-shoulder bag when not in use. This is no joke a life saver.
It costs $100 to sponsor a coat, which covers the cost of labor, materials, and overhead expenses. So if you want to donate either for a coat to be given to someone in need or to receive a coat for someone in need in your community, you can follow this link and get right to it.
Okay, but I haven’t gotten to the best part - The Empowerment Plan doubles down on its mission by hiring single parents from local shelters in the city, trains them, and gives them full-time employment as the seamstresses who make the EMPWR Coat. So the cycle of negativity then becomes that of positive change, empowerment and most of all autonomy.
Right. On.
