Not only do they make for a cool style statement, but the important social statement is what makes them so special. The Blind Project is an excellent non-profit that empowers and provides opportunities to women who have been exploited in the commercial sex trade in South East Asia.
I’ve been in direct contact with Anthony Dodero, the co-founder of The Blind Project, and this is what he had to say about the meaning behind the design:
“The open space in this bracelet symbolizes a break in a cycle - the brothel to brothel cycle many women go through. New jobs for these women provide an opportunity for a new identity. The clear I.D. plate signifies this blank slate, where she can re-write her story.”
