WHAT: ISARO BY JILL GOLDEN
WHY: I might as well coin this week's INTO IT posts "get off your lazy ass and do something" week.
On Wednesday I wrote about Vancouver brand Obakki and how you can join in on their fashion mission to provide clean water to Cameroon and South Sudan.
Another important concern that also needs our attention is fair trade in developing countries, and New York jewelry designer Jill Golden is shining her style light on the issue. She's partnered up with J. Crew to design two special pieces from her ISARO collection which employs women from the Ejo Hazaza cooperative in Rwanda.
How it works is that Jill sends her designs to these artisans and they get busy with all the weaving, and yes, it goes without saying, all for a fair trade wage. Business woman to business woman. Rad.
The bracelets are truly a work of art, but beyond the vibrant beading and craftsmanship is respect for each woman who had a part in making them. Oh and it gets better because a portion from each sale goes to Indego Africa which then gets filtered back to the women for training and education.
Listen people, all the legwork has been done for you, so buy a couple for your best friends or hoard them for yourself - I don’t care. All I know is that purchasing with a purpose is the trend bandwagon we should all be jumping on.
