A weak Black Widow

Goddamn that's ripe. This is Scarlett Johansson at the gym in Hollywood working out her Black Widow body. Did you see Iron Man 2? I loved Iron Man 2. Not as much as Iron Man but I enjoyed almost every second. Except for the seconds with Scarjo.

She's not the only problem with the film. For starters, at times, it dissolves into pure silliness, even for a superhero movie. There's a shoot out shoot up at a party at one point that's totally ridiculous. And there's too much sh-t going on. Tony Stark is a nihilist, a narcissist, and he's in love and he's dealing with some daddy issues. That would have been enough. But add that to a top secret superhero agency and two villains and the privatisation of peace, and the end result is, well, messy.

But RDJ more than makes up for it. RDJ as Tony Stark is the sexiest motherf-cker ever, despite whatever they did with his hair and those dumb high heels. He's irresistible. You can't help but fall in love with him. And you can't help but fall in love with the way he and Pepper are in love. Duana received a text message the other night from someone who'd obviously just seen the movie:

"How does the detestable Gwyneth Paltrow become so likable in these Iron Man movies?"

How indeed? It's their chemistry. They are so f-cking cute together I can't stand it. The timing, they bounce, they play off each other beautifully, and the result is sweet and funny and very, very entertaining. It's adorable.

Which only highlights the blandness of the terribly uninteresting Scarlett Johansson. Sure, she looks crazy in that black catsuit. And at times you want to suck on those lips hard. But Scarjo here, she just doesn't pop. It could have been anyone. It didn't have to be her. Iron Man and RDJ are now welded together, inseparable. Black Widow and Scarjo? You could put someone else in the spinoff and it wouldn't matter. They didn't give her enough to work with and she's not charismatic enough to own what little there was. Not unlike Jennifer Garner's Electra. Right now the Widow doesn't deserve a solo.
