So I'm a new runner - and I read a little while ago the post about Robin Thicke's new song being awesome for running (I agree!) - can you suggest other songs for running?
I'm doing 3 races this year - all just 5K, but aiming for a half-marathon next year, and I need some serious oomph when I run solo!

It is hard to keep updating your running playlist and finding new songs to prevent you from becoming bored not only with your music, but also with your running, is a challenging task. I find a lot of my new music through Songza (in my opinion one of the best applications for your smart phone) as well as by attending workout classes and making note of any songs the instructor plays that helped to push me a little bit more.
However, as much as music is a motivator, I actually recommend that you also learn to push yourself while running without music. I do not race with music, as I like to focus on what I am trying to accomplish, and because I train how I race, most of the time I run music free. Music distracts me from paying attention to my breathing rate, my running gate, my body position, my heart rate and my pace. More importantly, when you are out racing, the streets will be lined with people who come out to support YOU so if you are drowning out their cheers of encouragement then you are missing out one of the best parts of the race.
It is also dangerous to run with music, both while training and racing, because you are distracted from what is happening around you. If you are listening to music make sure you keep it at a volume that still allows you to be aware of your surroundings, especially traffic. Most running races are not closed courses and you are sharing the road with vehicle traffic, therefore it is important to be aware.
