Tidal – the Jay Z-backed music streaming service, launches today at 5 p.m. EST with a Carter press conference in New York. The social media takeover is in full swing, with a bright blue avatar popping up all over Instagram and Twitter. And there’s even a musical Justice League video Alicia Keys first posted (it’s spreading fast) – I counted Bey and Kanye (obviously), Chris Martin, Jason Aldean, Daft Punk, Calvin Harris, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Jack White, with Usher, Alicia, Regine Chassagne and Win Butler (I think?) on webcam. Imagine the logistics of planning that meeting. Or maybe when Jay Z calls, people clear their schedules. Look for #TIDALforALL to be everywhere over the next few days.
The Justin Bieber roast is tonight, and I will watch it even though I feel all of the good jokes have probably been used in the previews. Over the weekend, Natasha Leggero and SNL’s Pete Davidson had a Twitter skirmish over a joke he thought she stole from the roast – it’s about Jeffrey Ross and a microwave. They’ve pulled the tweets down but comedians get really touchy about that sort of thing. First she apologized, but then she said she had written it before the roast and could prove it. What I find interesting is that Jeffrey Ross didn’t notice he was insulted the same way twice just a few days apart.
