Speaking of shows I miss - fresh off his Golden Globe win, both for the show and for Best Actor, Steve Buscemi was back on set in Brooklyn the other day working on Boardwalk Empire.

When we first started watching the show, Jacek kept calling him Nookie. Rhymes with "rookie". This made me laugh.

A lot has been written about whether or not Buscemi is a Leading Man - can he carry a show, does he have the charisma, is he dynamic enough? I mean, there's Jon Hamm, and then there's Buscemi. And I get that, I see that it's not the same. But he works for me as Nucky Thompson. Nucky, the character, scrapped his way up, with a little charm, sure, but mostly by way of intelligence and cunning...and I'm not sure that those attributes have to go hand in hand with that kind of "own the screen" appeal. After all, real life crime bosses all can't be Al Pacino.

There's also something to be said about a main character who doesn't have to overact or dominate every scene.

Anyway, we can debate this some time during a TV LiveBlog. If you haven't already, Boardwalk Empire is worth your investment. Give it 3 episodes. You'll be into it. If only for Paz de la Huerta. She's a joy. Really.
