Imagine if it was the other PGA I was referring to? No, no, the people who run the golf organisation don’t have anything to do with Compton. But the Producers Guild of America has included Straight Outta Compton among the list of 10 films contending for Outstanding Motion Picture three days before the Oscar Academy’s nomination deadline. The PGAs are always a good predictor of the Academy’s eventual nominees. With a PGA inclusion and a SAG inclusion…could Dr Dre and Ice Cube actually be going to the Oscars? Cube, by the way, is coming back to you next week on January 15th with Kevin Hart in Ride Along 2, just one day after the Oscar nominations will be announced. He could be an Oscar nominee on opening weekend. Ride Along has become one of my can’t turn away movies on the TV. I’ll never change the channel if it’s on. Because I’m still not sick of Cube making his crusty ass face at Kevin’s idiotic shenanigans. Also, if you haven’t before, you should check out their “ride-along” with Conan. Still funny. Click here to watch.
Anyway, here’s the PGA’s full list:
The Big Short
Bridge Of Spies
Brooklyn
Ex Machina
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Martian
The Revenant
Sicario
Spotlight
Straight Outta Compton
What’s missing?
Carol and The Hateful Eight, both of which are strong for Oscar. And also Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I mean that must have been a monster to produce.
The surprise here is Ex Machina. No argument. Also I love that Sicario has been included. Bridge Of Spies though… come on, aside from Mark Rylance’s performance, that film was boring and way too long. It’s the Spielberg factor.
