Yeah so Taylor Momsen’s interview with Spin – have you read it?
She’s so hardcore with her eyeliner and her band and the holes in her stockings, you know, like real rock’n’roll and other bitches like Rihanna are total pretenders.
"People think pop is rock, and the lines are getting blurred. Now Rihanna's wearing f-ckin' leather jackets, and it's really annoying."
Really? Are we doing this? Is it an Annoying-Off? Because in an Annoying-Off Jenny Humphrey loses every time. And, um, PS, Taylor Momsen stars on Gossip Girl AND a campaign for Material Girl, the clothing line for kids launched by a POP QUEEN called Madonna.
This is how you know, see? She’s 17, fronts like she’s 30, wants desperately to be taken as an adult, and talks like a teenager so in other words, full of dumbassness. It’s their defining feature, along with overestimating their own intelligence and maturity.
In Taylor Momsen’s case, she’s also a celebrity, which means she’s not only young and stupid, she’s also never challenged, resulting in quotes like this:
"(My style is) high-class hooker. I dress for myself. Clearly, it's provocative, but it makes me feel good. And if the only reason it makes someone uncomfortable is because I'm 17, then that person's a scumbag because it shouldn't matter."
It’s a common affliction, as I’ve noted before, among the Stupid Generation – using words in the wrong context, a series of statements that sound great, but make no sense, and that pretty much sums up the lot of them.
After all, the fact that you’re underage, and therefore illegal, is what makes it “provocative”, so of course it matters, you moron – even if he’s a scumbag. And you have a journalist (probably an intern, actually) taking down the quote who doesn’t bother with a follow up question, allowing the statement to stand as is and that’s why there’s a 12 year old walking around right now calling this a prophecy.
"I'm not really sure how to answer properly yet (about the inspiration behind my suggestive lyrics). I've had a lot of bad experiences, and whether that's from sex or drugs or something else, they are adult experiences that would f-ck anyone up."
This is Momsen performing at V Festival in England this weekend and at BBC Radio this morning, continuing to tour with Pretty Reckless which, presumably, is how she’s encountering all these “adult experiences”. What’s the law on this re: guardianship? Then again, Momsen’s mother probably subscribes to the Dina Lohan Method – let them go, give them their freedom, give them the Chateau Marmont and a tour bus and trust that they’ll come back. Because, as Taylor would tell you, an “artist” is a free soul:
"I was at a point where I was getting up and going to work, but I was drained. Gossip Girl gave me a platform to make this happen faster, and I'm grateful, but if I'm not doing something that makes me happy, then I'm dying. Music keeps me young."
Oh the f-cking drama.
