It’s a little early to be talking about the MET Gala but we haven’t yet mentioned this year’s theme or the celebrity co-chairs. Joining Anna Wintour this year for the event will be Nicolas Ghesquiere, Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, Idris Elba, Jonathan Ive, and, yes, Taylor Swift. Typically the co-chairs wear the co-chairing designers. So it could be Taylor in LV or Chanel or Prada or Miu Miu. Which I’m kind of excited about because, editorially, when they style her in magazines, it’s always an improvement on her standard red carpet appearances.
The theme of the MET Gala for 2016 is Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. Please, can the sheer trend end already? By the way, Rihanna and Beyoncé are touring through April and May but both, coincidentally, have Monday May 2nd off. I mean there are travel concerns, for sure. But there are also private planes.
Here’s Taylor leaving Milk Studios in New York yesterday after a photo shoot. As you know, she was all over the news yesterday for donating $250,000 in support of Kesha. I posted photos of her leaving dinner with Lena Dunham – click here for a refresher. Lena wrote passionately – and angrily – today in Lenny about Kesha’s situation and about how women and victims are disadvantaged by a legal system that seems to favour the abuser. Click here to read it. Dr Luke, by the way, got all sanctimonious on Twitter yesterday denying all allegations, his people insisting that Kesha’s only doing this to get more money out of her contract. It’s been 3 years since Kesha released any new music. And she could be releasing new music, you know, if she were willing to work in an environment that supports someone who caused her so much pain. But doesn’t the fact that she’d rather not work tell you how much pain she endured?
