My Gwyneth: condescending, holier-than-thou, stuck up and elitist… I love her for the attitude though at times she really should shut the f&ck up. Same goes for Gisele Bundchen. Especially Gisele Bundchen. A model talking? A model defending her profession? Shut up and look pretty, honey. It’s your body we’re after…not your mouth. But unfortunately for us, Gisele decided to treat us to a taste of her opinion, weighing in on the controversy surrounding the modelling industry and whether or not fashion and the unrealistic body types perpetuated by the world of runway and Vogue contribute to anorexia. As you would expect, Gisele says “absolutely not”, insisting that it is strength of family and values or lack thereof that plays the most significant role. Don’t agree but whatever…it’s her viewpoint, she’s entitled to it. The problem is once she started, she apparently couldn’t stop…and THIS is the quote that embodies the Gwyneth: "Everybody knows that the norm in fashion is thin. But excuse me, there are people born with the right genes for this profession.” Call me Cruise but isn’t “the norm in fashion” purely subjective? Or has it been inscribed on some tablet found buried under Noah’s Ark and laid out for display at the Smithsonian that models HAVE to be thin? As for being born with the right genes – sure…I suppose I can’t dispute her physical perfection and that of her peers. The problem is not how they were born, the problem is the EXPECTATIONS placed upon them when they get there and the pressure exerted upon these young girls to live up to them. Are you telling me the fashion industry doesn’t compel its muses to be able to fit into a size 2? Even WITH a strong family core what 18 year old, 110 pound waif, working away from home can resist Karl Lagerfeld and his bitchbeating fan yelling at her to lose 20 more pounds? Please. Family to blame, perhaps. Fashion to blame, for sure. Gisele stop talking and just show us your ass… yes, yes, yes Source
