Tom Cruise and John Travolta were unable to participate in George Clooney’s Hope For Haiti Now telethon because they were committed to another event - the Living Legends of Aviation. Apparently Tom was receiving a prize for flying his bigboy plane. After the ceremony, both Cruise and Travolta with Kelly Preston hit up the afterparty wearing medals. Weird. So f-cking weird.

But while they were unable to lend their support at the call centre, they have been doing their part to help the people of Haiti. Sort of. Travolta told Entertainment Tonight that:

"I have arranged for a plane to take down some volunteer ministers and some supplies and some medics. My church has also arranged for 80 medicos and 33 volunteers to go down. I hope that inspires others as well."

Um... volunteer ministers?

Gawker was ALL OVER IT. Acknowledging that it was great that the Church of Scientology was sending supplies to save lives, there’s also the question of recruitment in exchange.

It’s all so very... icky.

Why couldn’t he just be like – yeah, we’re flying down much needed supplies and we hope to help the victims? Why even introduce the ministry? So chills. Chills, chills, chills.

Or are we just cynical bitches?
