Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton are in Paris today to promote their movie Warrior. As you can see, Tom is... kinda beefy right now. He’s been working on The Dark Knight Rises. He will be the villain. Needless to say, at least without any makeup on, his villain looks like Bronson without the moustache. Have you seen Bronson? Or, more specifically, have you seen him in Bronson?
I want to see him looking leaner. Eventually. My tastes run a little more lanky. Obviously that’s not going to happen in Batman. And it’s also not going to happen in Warrior as he and Edgerton play brother fighters who must fight each other to the end. Don’t yell at me for spoiling it. They pretty much give it away in the trailer which is predictably goose pimply in parts and derivatively inspiring in others and, to my ear anyway, both deliver pretty convincing American accents, and I can’t decide if I want to see this because, frankly, I can’t choose. If you’re asking me to make that kind of a choice, and a choice WILL HAVE TO BE MADE, I don’t know if I’ll be able to stand it. And if they don’t make a choice and pussy out like a tie is the way to make everyone happy, that’ll just make me angry.
Warrior opens on September 9th.
PS. Re Joel Edgerton – Jacek and I saw him play Stanley Kowalski opposite Cate Blanchett’s Blanche Dubois at BAM last year. He was terrific.
