Posh has been wearing her hair up for a while now – like we would forget its actual length and believe these are not extensions. Check it out – Victoria Beckham in London with Eva Longoria, in town to promote her fragrance, wearing an (un)original Posh design, after dinner with Gordon Ramsay as a small village of paparazzi just happen to be waiting outside.
You do know that Mrs Beckham is about to present her new collection to the important fashion people in New York this week, right? It’s convenient to have a friend parading around in her “designs”.
The NY Times just published a profile on her work, a largely flattering piece with some hilarious bits, about the surprising popularity of her dresses including a quote from Anna Wintour who cautions detractors not to underestimate Victoria, all while, of course, refusing to feature her in her magazine. You have to admire a bitch of the highest order.
There’s a hint of snide in the article, just enough of a subtle sneer to let you know that while they won’t discount her completely, they’re also aware of who she is. Phrases like “contorted public poses” come up a lot, balanced out by impressive statistics on sales and her undeniable success so far in this latest branch of her business, complemented by allusions to her husband’s unfaithful past, and observations about her notorious try-styling. After all, the reputation had a lot to do with her being able to launch the brand, non?
As you know though, Victoria can be funny. And she tries, selectively, to be honest. I do like that she addresses her chavvy past, that she will own up to *some* of her tacky legacy, if only to conclude by insisting she works for a living:
“I was probably responsible for creating that (WAG) look, the long hair extensions, the fake tan, lots of makeup. (But) I’ve never really been a true WAG. I’ve always had a career.”
Brilliant, non?
