This Viola Davis dress is intrinsically pretty. When I look at it in a still picture, and she’s beaming, it takes my breath away, actually. I get all the comparisons to a starry night.
But here’s the unpopular opinion – I didn’t like it as much as some people did, by a wide margin. It didn’t move with her the way it should have done, it seemed too big and floating around her, like she didn’t have time to get it tailored. I like it better now than I did at the time, but it’s still not her best for flow. It’s a photo shoot dress. But maybe with none coming up, she had to use it now—soon How To Get Away With Murder won’t be the baby anymore anyway, given that The Catch is coming to take its youngest-Shondaland-child spot in the spring.
