Zendaya has pulled out of the Lifetime movie about Aaliyah.
GOOD.
Aaliyah’s family wasn’t happy with the project to begin with. Rumour has it they won’t release the rights to her music. And Zendaya confirmed as much last night at the BET Awards that that made a difference in her decision:
“Because it’s someone that I honor and I respect so much, it has to be 128 percent, especially for all her fans, including myself. I didn’t feel like it was all the way there, so I didn’t want to do that. And when the time comes when it’s done right and it’s 100 percent, by all means, I will be the first person there ready to go.”
I can’t imagine Missy Elliott was too upset with that.
And, frankly, for Zendaya, it’s not a loss either. I had no idea who she was until that story broke a couple of weeks ago. Because I don’t watch Disney or Dancing With The Stars. Now? Now I know what a Zendaya is. Apparently she’s trying to be a fashion girl. Fine. So long as she’s not Aaliyah she can try to be whatever he wants.
