Angelina Jolie is currently one of the frontrunners for a Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Maria. She was not at the Academy Museum Gala this weekend but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t campaigning. Because campaigning doesn’t just happen in Hollywood.
Angelina was at the London Film Festival with the Maria team, getting some facetime in with BAFTA voters. There’s a lot of intersection between the BAFTAs and the Oscars and what happens at the BAFTAs can have an impact on what happens at the Oscars. A BAFTA nomination – and win – can be a major boost for Oscar so Angelina’s getting an early start over in England before heading back to the US to continue campaigning later this month when Maria will premiere at AFI.
As you can see, Angelina was suited and booted for the London premiere and I love this, I love how her posture seems to relax when she’s in a jacket and pants. The swagger shows up, she seems more relaxed. I love this look but you know what made me laugh? I was watching some interviews she was doing on the red carpet and it occurred to me that her forehead moves more than mine, LOOOLLL.

To clarify, when I say that my forehead doesn’t move, it’s because it’s been injected with Xeomin (a Botox alternative – which I wrote about at The Squawk last year, with photos of the process; shameless promo, this is what you’re missing if you’re not subscribed!) so either Angelina is behind on her schedule or she’s not doing it at all.
The schedule can be tricky if you’re timing it to events. My last treatment was in mid-August because it really starts to sing after about three weeks and I was getting ahead of TIFF. Xeomin, for me, lasts three to four months so I’m probably due again in December or so but I always get lazy about it at the end of the year and then in January we run into award season and the Oscars. The Oscars are on March 2 next year so, ideally, I should probably go in early to mid February for tweak which means I’ll probably skip December and just wait until February. My forehead in December and January, then, will look closer to Angelina’s.
Sorry about that vanity detour, let’s talk about the Angelina romance non-story since Akala was also at the Maria premiere in London and has been seen at several events in support of Angelina lately, leading to speculation that they’re dating. Even though, at all those same events, his partner, Chanelle Newman, has also been present. And Chanelle was there this weekend as well. The Daily Mail actually has a photo of Chanelle leaving the afterparty with Akala but that didn’t stop them and so many other media outlets from strongly hinting that Angelina and Akala are a thing. This is why media hygiene is contaminated as f-ck.
