Kacey sings the blues
Kacey Musgraves’s new album is all about transition: she left a relationship, she moved houses, and she gave up weed. She looks really, really good and the album promo hasn’t been “jumping on the couch like Tom Cruise” noisy, but every time she shows up somewhere, I notice.
I was asked about the quilted coat she wore as a dress and she tagged Polo Ralph Lauren in her photo! It’s a $1000 and change. The good thing about a patchwork quilt coat is that it’s not really a trend and there’s some version of it every winter; you can find authentic vintage or faux-vintage on Etsy. I’m sure I’ve said this before, but when I shop on Etsy I always change my settings to only vendors in my country. I don’t know what’s happened but in the last few years it’s become overrun with drop shippers and “sponsored” posts – this is the best way I’ve found to filter those out. If there were more sizes, I’d be all over this Sezane coat - unfortunately, only a few left.
Hard launch and pizza
Meghann Fahy and Leo Woodall hard launched with an Instagram post and some very clear pap shots. I received a request from her sweater and at first glance I thought it was one of those overpriced sweatshirts that cosplays as a kitschy, airport-style sweatshirt. Do you know what I mean? It’s a very specific category because it’s something expensive that is trying to look cheap. It’s supposed to be ironic, I guess? Here’s an example of what I mean.
Meghann’s sweatshirt is not ironic, it is the real deal. Yes, there’s a Pizza Shark in Cape Cod and you can buy merch here. $42 for a sweatshirt, which is a fair price. Bet the pizza is good too.
Kelly’s WWHL PJs
Most of the time we see Kelly Ripa, she is dressed like a morning TV show host. That’s not a knock on her personal or professional style – this woman grinds and has to get up early nearly every day. Her show caters to a wide network audience and it’s a lot of blouses, pencil skirts and trousers. On WWHL, she wore a silky Amiri Champagne pajama suit with a really fun print. Great for an evening talk show with a completely different audience. This isn’t her hosting clothes, it’s her “going out” clothes. The exact pants are sold out but here’s a few different variations of the blouse floating around (including a crop, which I love, and a men’s shirt).
This brings me to pajama suits, which I feel like were all the rage in like 2021-2022 and now? We don’t see it as much anymore. I think there’s a few things going on here. One, it’s a look that is hard to repeat. Sure Kelly can splash a few grand on this but she will likely not wear it on TV again. There’s an impracticality to something that’s supposed to prioritize comfort. Second, the wrinkle factor. These pants get wrinkly and look a mess pretty quickly. Third, the drip factor. Not drip as in style, I mean literal drips. If there’s a drizzle, or condensation from a glass, or a spill, this fabric shows it. All those downsides I listed also have an upside because the whole thing about wearing a pajama suit is the attitude. It’s about dressing for ones own comfort and joy, not for approval. Pajama suits have a bit of a superior attitude. This white and blue suit from H&M, a beaded black suit from Zara and a printed set that may actually be pajamas from Simons all capture the attitude, for under $200.
