Lucy Liu and the Goldilocks coat: this one is just right
Let me tell you, I went on a journey for this coat! There’s a couple of reasons: a camel coat for fall is like a white t-shirt; nearly every line makes a version of it. Second, this one had two distinct features (or so I thought): slit pockets in front (see the photos here) and the adjustable cuff. There are a lot of coats that look like this, but not exactly. Look at this Chloe coat – the cuff is right but the buttons are wrong. Then there’s the Max Mara classic coat, which has the right cut but no cuff. Do that over 100 coats and you see my problem; none of them are just right.
Then, kind of by accident I had a last moment of searching and found this. I spent hours looking for this coat and they just… posted it on Instagram. You can find it online here, just a few sizes left.
Great, I found the coat and should be thrilled right? Right?! Right?!!!! Well I’m not, I’m peeved because if you look at the pockets here and here, they are different. In the photos of Lucy wearing it on the street, there’s no flap. In the brand’s website photo, the pockets have flaps. What is going on here. Why is this coat gaslighting us! I’m choosing to take this personally, even though it is likely that she tucked the flaps in or maybe her stylist removed them.
Hanna, if the Mint Velvet doesn’t have your size there are tons of options; I’m partial to Cos. Aritzia has a staple wool coat and for an option that sneaks in under $100 there’s Joe Fresh. On the other end of the spectrum, this Stella McCartney coat is very sleek and very, very expensive.
Paul Mescal doing Hot Boy sh-t
An Irish man hasn’t had so many women down this bad since Colin Farrell in his naughty era. I got a request (hi, Heather!) asking about his shirt in Hot Ones but for some reason, my brain went to Chicken Shoppe Date. (Do you think Andrew Garfield was jealous when he watched this?)
The teal shirt is vintage and no shocker, it’s vintage Aidash (no surprise, it screams vintage).
Now to the actual request: Paul Mescal on Hot Ones. I found a very similar Kandinsky shirt here and it’s so close, but not exact. He could have picked up his anywhere (like a museum gift shop or from a friend’s closet) so I think this is as close as I’ll get.
Sofia Richie: it’s always designer
I got a request for Sofia Richie’s leather jacket and it’s designer. With Sofia, it’s always designer. Leather? Absolutely, definitely, 100% designer. She’s wearing this Saint Laurent leather jacket. I don’t have dupes because I hate pleather and real leather is pricey. That Saint Laurent jacket is $6k and the closest style I’ve found is The Frankie Shop and it’s still over $1100. Steep!
