Last December, I shouted out Andrew who was 14 years old at the time and had spent half his life in and out of foster care. When Andrew was 6, he found what he calls his “forever family”. He’s dedicated the last three years collecting toonies in support of Covenant House Vancouver and programs that assist homeless and at-risk youth, those who were not able to find their “forever families”, those who’ve been left behind. Andrew ended up raising $45,000 to Covenant House Vancouver and a big part of his story is his mother, Sandy Teel. Sandy and her husband adopted Andrew and helped him overcome the hurt and the resentment that could have easily taken over his life after what he experienced before they became a family. She continues to advocate for disadvantaged youth and has been named the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Community MVP. Sandy is one of several Community MVPs being featured by the MLS and you can vote for her as the MLS WORKS Community MVP until tomorrow, August 2nd, at 2pm. The winner receives a $25,000 donation for their charity of choice and Sandy and her family have chosen Covenant House Vancouver.
