In certain places, kids have already been back to school for a couple of weeks. Generally, though, in North America, “back to school” usually means right after Labour Day, a week from today. It’s amazing how that feeling never goes away. I can still feel the dread in my stomach that used to happen when I was a kid around this time of year. There was some excitement – I was that nerd who got excited about new pencils and pencil cases and accessories (all of my sh-t came from Hong Kong, where I spent my summers, and they are wayyyyy cuter than what we have over here) – for about two days, but mostly it was a general, full-body UGH where school was concerned.

That, obviously, is a spoiled child attitude towards education. As my ma used to say, how lucky was I to have the opportunity, as she barely finished tenth grade, her family couldn’t afford for her to keep going to classes. There are so many kids now in the same position, who want to learn but, due to financial barriers, are unable to stay in school.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z announced the other day that, through their foundations BeyGOOD and Shawn Carter Foundation, they will be partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to fund a scholarship program for high school students with financial needs. The Carters will contribute over a million dollars to support one qualified college-bound student from eleven cities on the On the Run 2 tour with $100,000. This is in addition to the Formation scholarships for young women that Beyoncé had previously committed to after the release of Lemonade and the HBCU scholarships she confirmed earlier this year after Beychella. In other Beyoncé news, did you hear about what happened in Atlanta the other night? Some jackass rushed the stage and tried to, I don’t know, get a lock of her hair or something and holy sh-t, the dancers, they not only looked like they’ve been rehearsing the choreography, they’ve also been trained by Julius in security because they went after him like her own personal militia. Which probably isn’t far from the truth.

Anyway, that loser got arrested and our Queen is fine. So fine that she, well, she sent out a warning, sort of. Have you seen this? It’s a side of Beyoncé she doesn’t show us often: Goofy Beyoncé. Isn’t this cute?!?

I still have to wait five more weeks before OTR2 in Vancouver. By then they’ll be very, very close to the end of the tour. I wonder what her mood will be like by then, if she’ll get even looser, sillier. Vancouver is their only Canadian stop. I feel like it’s going to be extra special. Am I expecting too much?
