BTS for a thousand
The BTS comeback has expanded to include even Jeopardy! as the show’s YouTube account posted a compilation video the other day of some of the times when the group was an answer on the board.
But this week, BTS for a thousand could also mean last night, when they were in New York for a special event with Spotify at Pier 17 where 1000 of the network’s top streamers were invited for an exclusive in-conversation moderated by Suki Waterhouse. Random, I know, but she said she was a stan and their team must have approved it so I’m not going to bother spending too much time on this – what’s important is that RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook looked like they were into it.

I spent most of my night last night and most of my morning today pissing away my responsibilities and just watching fancams. If you’re looking to do the same, here’s a compilation of some of moments from the interview which include short clips of RM translating for the group, as usual; Suga revealing he doesn’t like water even though their new lead single is “Swim”; revealing their shower songs; teasing Jimin about always being naked; and RM’s infamous English accent making an appearance.
This is an ARMY thing and I say this because moments like this have been part of our revival. Inside jokes, picking up on the weird, chaotic, and hilarious things that the seven members are known for, turning them into memes, sharing them online – it’s in our lifeblood as ARMY. So now that we’re officially in a comeback, they’re giving us fresh content to put in the archive. And they KNOW, they know what we laugh at, the sh-t we can’t get enough of, we know they know because … well… they do things like this:
It’s the familiarity for me, the fact that as ARMY we get to laugh affectionately with him/at him about this again. So much of the last few days has felt comfortingly familiar while also, at the same time, refreshingly new. The music is new, and more experimental, bold, ambitious, but they are as close as they’ve ever been, as hard working, as committed, and as f-cking attractive as ever.
The styling so far during this comeback? From the Seoul comeback concert to this appearance in New York? These fits are so good. The accessories are so good. The skin is SO good. And they sound so f-cking good.
It was their first performance in the United States in four years. They threw down a three-song set from the new album: “Swim”, “2.0”, and “Normal”. And the vocals are stronggggg. As is the choreography.
I can’t wait for the practice videos to come out – practice videos are how BTS hooked me ten years ago, when I first became ARMY. It was watching them rehearse, watching them in that old dance studio, and this is why I much prefer the brand new “Swim” performance video over the official music video that was released last Friday.
With “Swim”, BTS is hoping for another Hot 100 hit, to go along with another #1 on the Billboard 200. Spending the week in the US is part of that goal. They’ll be on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon tomorrow and Thursday but as MC mentioned earlier in his Miley Cyrus post, the iHeartRadio Awards are on Thursday night in Hollywood. Taylor Swift was recently confirmed to make a “special appearance”, presumably to push radio play for “Elizabeth Taylor”, the next single from The Life of a Showgirl, beginning this week.
Jin, j-hope, Jimin, and Jung Kook have all also been nominated for iHeartRadio Awards. And they happen to be in America promoting ARIRANG. They could, in theory, fulfill their commitment to The Tonight Show – through creative producing and editing – and also make a surprise appearance at the iHeart event since radio play and exposure is also critical if they want to get “Swim” to the highest possible position on the charts. And it’s not like iHeart wouldn’t want the BTS boost either.
Umm... all of them obviously. ❤️🔥 #ARIRANG pic.twitter.com/ccz1gMhu4D

One more BTS update…
V posted his first TikTok – a dance video that also includes Hobi and JK. Tae is really, really feeling himself on this comeback so far, as he should. All of them are bias assassins but his blade is especially sharp right now.
