Wow. All of a sudden it seems, in the last couple of months, all of a sudden she’s rockin’ it to a higher level. Best Dressed for me at the Grammys, still tiny but by all appearances also healthy, and a new glow – some of you suspect surgical assistance yet I think it’s just a young women growing into her own, as illustrated today at the ISAs. Love the short black dress, love the mint green heels, love the legs, love the fresh skin...love, love, love it all. And there’s something else too. Have you read The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles? An amazing book, perhaps even more relevant today than it was way back then, and there’s a line at the beginning about Kit – the protagonist’s wife – describing her face. I’m paraphrasing, can’t remember the exact quote but it went something like: it was the intensity of her eyes that saved her from prettiness, and I feel this way about Christina Ricci. Not because of her eyes per se but her forehead. The feature that in the past was maybe an obstacle to conventional “prettiness” but which now prevents her from the ordinariness of pretty and has elevated her instead to compelling beauty. Much like Cate Blanchett. In the same way that Cate Blanchett would never be described as “pretty”, Cate is absolutely 100% a True Beauty. And strangely enough, similarly enough, so is the new Christina Ricci…perhaps because it comes from somewhere else.
