In 2020, Aviation Gin was sold to alcohol super conglomerate Diageo but Ryan Reynolds still holds ownership shares. He still actively promotes it. The official Aviation Gin has locked its account on Twitter (fair enough) and turned off comments on Instagram. Ryan’s other big investment, Mint Mobile, has also limited comments. Betty Buzz limits its comments but Blake Brown takes a different approach – it appears to delete comments. That means someone is actively monitoring that comment section, which seems exhausting.
For Blake’s brands, it’s not just the comments telling the story but many of the posts have minuscule “like” counts. Social media isn’t everything for a brand but what a celebrity offers in value is marketing. Their face is more valuable than money in a way because any VC firm can pony up cash, there’s a million rich people out there, but fame is rare. And I wonder if, from the way it launched, Blake Brown can recover or if it is too tainted to survive. Out of all their combined brands, this one will have the toughest recovery.
Amy Schumer thanks a movie critic because she thinks journalists are assigned to trash her. I’ve never been assigned to trash Amy Schumer; I do it of my own free will. She is such a victim of everything, all the time. An exhausting celebrity.
I, like millions of other people on Beyonce’s internet, have been mesmerized by a clip from La Isla de las Tentaciones (Spanish Temptation Island). Stephanie broke it down this morning (thank you!) and this clip has gotten millions of views. I don’t understand Spanish and I knew exactly what was happening. Watching him spring, wail and fall to his knees is a universal language.
I’ve written about how celebrity beauty lines are increasingly in trouble but there are some bright spots, including Rare Beauty. Selena and team have done and excellent job with this brand and she consistently shows up for it. Teaming with Jennifer Aniston’s LolaVie for an event is smart as they are friends and the brands can complement, not compete. In this specific scenario, it is Rare Beauty who is the big dog – this is a boost to LolaVie. On a side note, I love their coordinating all-black outfits.
You know what I love about this clip of Cynthia Erivo on Chicken Shop Date? She leans in when she thinks she’s going to hear something juicy, then coyly says she doesn’t pry. Look at that smile – she is a gossip, just like us! She was ready to ship.
Jonathan Bailey has, so far, the most successful post-Bridgerton career in terms of projects, prestige and maintaining buzz without overexposure. It has a lot to do with timing – fame came to him and he was ready for it.
