This is hardly a novel observation, but it’s interesting to watch Taylor’s new era because it’s such a juxtaposition to the weekly rom-com we’ve been watching. She’s in different space today than when she wrote this album and as a songwriter, needs to be able to access an emotional range. Taylor always leans into the work and part of the work is creating a storyline around the album. Now she needs to sell this sepia-tinted image while living the varsity jacket. I’m seeing a lot of strife and worry in the Swiftie fandom, people who can’t comprehend what is going on. It’s starting to get really conspiratorial in the comments.
Here's an example: a KC jersey signed by Taylor and Travis was donated to a charity auction. Some Swifties are upset she would sign his jersey “because it’s weird” and others are convinced that it’s fake. I don’t think the Guelph Wish Fund for Children is conspiring to auction off fake merchandise from the most famous couple in the world. Isn’t the more likely scenario that they both signed it, considering they are both pretty charitable? Why would the default assumption be that it can’t be real because it’s too extra. Their first public outing was at a football game. They have hardly been hiding their extra.
Have you seen Matthew Koma’s Valentine’s Day post to Hilary Duff? These two do this a lot. This is why Ryan and Blake are always going for but they won’t really go this far, it’s more self-effacing. Matthew knows how to take a joke to the edge for our benefit. He dug up these old photos for the joke, he put the time in.
I don’t say this sarcastically, but where has Nicholas Braun gone? He was on the hot show playing the hot character, the show ends and it’s like poof – he disappeared. You think he would be at fashion week shows or something. Maybe he’s taking a long break.
A few days ago in What Else?, Lainey wrote about Justin Bieber at the Super Bowl. I agree, it’s no surprise he didn’t perform as that would be months of prep. In an interview with The Breakfast Club, Usher said he reached out and even though Justin declined, it’s all good between them and Justin made the trip to support Usher. That’s in line with what we’ve been hearing all week. Usher also revealed that he reached out to “everyone” and I’m curious who was on that list as he wouldn’t name names. But please watch this for the Chris Brown answer. “That man.” LOL.
