Sophia Bush covers Glamour and wrote her own essay for the magazine. We’ve seen this style of celebrity “reporting” from Beyoncé to Gwyneth Paltrow to Emily Ratajkowski. It’s a way for them to tell their story without the interpretation of a journalist. It’s also a way for them to tell their story without being questioned. That’s why I generally don’t enjoy reading them. They feel self-indulgent because today, there are so many ways for celebrities to tell their own story, whereas well-written celebrity profiles are a dying art. And it’s not because we are losing the artists (in this dynamic, that is the journalist), but we are losing the kinds of famous people who are open to interrogating what role they play in culture.
This essay is about the breakdown of Sophia’s marriage (which she intimates she was faking the entire time), fertility, queerness, and falling in love. She also highlights the aggressive clawing back of LGBTQIA+ rights in parts of the US and says that coming out is an honour. Personal stuff, it feels very memoir-ish. It’s understandable that she doesn’t feel safe to give up this information in a format she doesn’t have control of, but there’s the messiness of it, too. There was gossip attached to Sophia’s new relationship. Sophia ties the scandal to “gossip blogs and bottom-feeder online bots” but PEOPLE broke the story in October 2023. Hardly a bot or a blog. And when the fresh ex of your new girlfriend says she is in her “Lemonade era” it’s not like the gossips had to dig up anything. It was staring us in the face!
Ryan Seacrest had a girlfriend? Ryan Seacrest and his girlfriend broke up? Ryan Seacrest’s ex-girlfriend Paige has “haters”? I learned all this in the last 24 hours.
OK LOOK, I know there is too much TV and way too much reality TV but we need to talk about The Valley. The most magnificent group of trashbags to grace our TV in ages. The trickery! The ones you think will be reasonable are actually demonic.
I am a seasoned reality TV watcher and generally cynical person and even I was fooled for a few episodes.
Rebel Wilson’s memoir will be published in the UK without the Sacha Baron Cohen pages and… I’m assuming the UK has internet? Because they could just go on PEOPLE and read about it. How is this helping him in any way? He has made the story much bigger. Either he has a terrible team of advisors or he is stubborn and going against their advice. If so, his publicist should fire him. Who would want to be attached to this kind of work.
I really, really liked Mr. and Mrs. Smith and the “millennial hit people” direction it took. Maya Erskine announced her pregnancy. She’s married to Michael Angarano and they are very cute together!
