Seems like there were a lot of skips at this year’s MET Gala (Rihanna, down with the flu and Beyoncé is busy). Kate Hudson, who rarely misses a big red carpet and was already in New York for album promo, skipped the gala but did hit up Stella McCartney’s after-party.
Maybe she just didn’t want to go through the whole rigmarole of fittings while she was working (she’s also filming the Mindy Kaling basketball series).
No Olsens this year, which isn’t unexpected (they are unpredictable) but I would still have loved to see them. After a long attendance streak, I don’t think they’ve shown up since 2019 (the year of camp!). They took one look at that red carpet and disappeared forever.
You know who was there? Charlie HUBBA HUBBA Hunnam. A rare sighting.
Some people are giving Hugh Jackman sh-t for this non-furnished room (he’s in transition OK!) but I’m not surprised he attended the MET Gala. He’s a favourite of Anna Wintour’s and a star of stage and screen. Also, yesterday I mentioned that Nicole Kidman is Grace Murdoch’s godmother. Hugh is her godfather. So he had friends there.
So in “today I learned” news, Bette Midler had a CBS sitcom and Lindsay Lohan played her daughter. It was short-lived and Bette appeared on David Duchovny’s podcast and talked about how Lindsay quit and as a producer, she wish she would have been more assertive and she could have sued (presumably to have a contract enforced). Lindsay was a kid so the decision to quit would have been made by her team (including her parents). Second, sitcoms fail for a bunch of different reasons and even seasoned pros sometime swing and miss. It’s a very fickle medium. Suing to get an actor back on set doesn’t seem like a way to make a show more successful.
My question is on the timing of this post: did Bette see it and get annoyed? Or had Bette already taped the podcast and word got back to Lindsay so she got ahead of it? This is low-stakes pettiness which is great for a Wednesday.
