Lainey has been grousing about Halloween all week, which is understandable. I would too if I had to dress up. And she makes a good point: who are the elaborate costumes for at this point? How many Tiger Kings and Carole Baskins do we need? But one thing I can get behind is pet and baby costumes. Kaavia James’s whiskers are killing me.

Finn (Amanda Seyfried’s very good boy) needs a signature at the door.

This is interesting: a survey about the intersection of entertainment, sports, and politics gauged the influence of American celebrities. The group that came out on top includes Tom Hanks (people trust him on key issues) and LeBron James (viewed as having done the most to raise awareness around voting – Fox News is going to cry hard over this one). Other influential voices include Dwayne Johnson, Oprah, Taylor Swift, Cardi B, and Beyoncé. Clearly the size and the reach of the platform matters but what’s notable is that this is the first presidential election in which Taylor Swift and Dwayne Johnson have made their picks publicly and it has been impactful. Meanwhile Tom Hanks scored very high even though he hasn’t posted about the election since August.

There’s a Masked Singer spoiler here, so STOP READING NOW if you don’t want to know who was revealed last night.

It was Wendy Williams. She asked host Nick Cannon if he and Mariah are going to get back together. Only Wendy would go there on live TV.

Us Weekly is doing a lot of reporting on Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s engagement, from the ring value to the wedding planning (they want to get married as soon as they can; she’s not so fussed about waiting for a Catholic annulment for her first marriage, which can take a long time). Here’s the thing though: in mid-September, Us Weekly was reporting that these two were “stretched to the limit” and Lainey and I both called bullsh-t. The story didn’t seem legit and at the time Lainey wrote that “it sounds like make-a-drama story to fill space.” Now they are engaged and Us Weekly wants to be an authority on it but if they were so wrong a month ago, why would we trust them to be right this time around?

Since the US election is looming large, we should just accept that for the next week, this is the dominant conversation. The Olsen twins: do they vote? And who do they vote for? In 2018, they won a CFDA award and Mary-Kate said in her speech “it’s such a difficult time right now” which some took as a nod to politics but that’s all we got. Do they say “prune” when they cast their ballot like they do when they take a photo? Honestly I don’t think they could ever vote for someone who wears a suit like Trump. The fits are so dumpy.
