I need to know if Olivia Wilde and Florence Pugh ran into each other at the Vanity Fair party. This is important.

Speaking of the Vanity Fair party, I prefer the work portraits over the couple portraits. We already get the couple on the red carpet but where else would we get the narrator of Never Have I Ever and Serena Williams. And the photo of Black Hollywood, now becoming a tradition.

Sharenting became the gold rush of Millennial influencing and it seems like the reckoning we knew was coming is gaining traction. Cosmopolitan has a series of stories up on their home pages that are well sourced and very interesting. The excuses are many: some parents insist this is setting their kids up for a financially healthy adulthood, completely disregarding the mental and emotional toll social media has on children (who then become maladjusted adults).

We know, through years and years of child star stories, that just because someone is rich at 18 doesn’t mean they understand how to manage their cash flow and expenses. The worst people are parents who say this is providing a lifestyle, like paying the mortgage, shopping trips or vacations. You can’t charge a 10-year-old rent!!!!!  It’s frustrating to read, but they do it because they have an audience. They are rewarded with likes and comments (even negative ones – it’s all about engagement), which translates into sponcon opportunities. And for all the parents who say they do it as a hobby and the kids aren’t forced, that’s a lie the adults tell themselves because without kids, the content has no monetary value. Audiences don’t engage and brands don’t want them and certainly won’t pay for them. No one wants these parents without their children and they are no different than the momagers and dadagers hovering around set, living out their unfulfilled dreams through their children. At least on set there are labour rules.

A surprising and very emotional post from Oliva Munn on her breast cancer diagnosis.

At an event for an app, Gwyneth Paltrow spoke about the question mark hanging over the two Goop shows for Netflix. The reason these shows weren’t a hit is that audiences are tuning in for Gwyneth Paltrow, not for her staff (sorry Goopers, it’s true). So if you are doing a Goop retreat to a mushroom commune or whatever, we want to watch Gwyneth doing mushrooms. You can’t have a famous A-lister running the company who just shows up to narrate, it’s not enough.

Vanderpump Rules is in its post-Scandoval era, so the letdown is inevitable. It’s always like this after a show has a super explosive season. One thing that is interesting is that there’s more money talk and less of a fourth wall, like Scheana talking about being jealous Ariana Madix was cast on Dancing With the Stars. I had no idea this was such a coveted gig and some people take dance lessons just in case they are cast. Still not sure if this is a Scheana-specific plan or a common thing for reality TV stars.
