Bonne fête, Céline!
Today is Céline Dion’s birthday, and this just in… she’s given herself a birthday present, confirming what had already been reported a couple of weeks ago: Céline will be performing in Paris in September and October at Paris La Défense Arena.
There have been hints all over Paris that this was happening and today, in celebration of the Queen of All Feelings, the Eiffel Tower was lit up and loud to let everyone know that Céline will indeed be coming back to us now…

The best part of this, of course, is that it means that Céline is well – and she says as much in her birthday message, telling us that she feels strong, that she’s been working on her health, and that she’s even doing a little dancing. Dancing, for Céline, often looks like lunging, while chest pumping. AND WE HAVE MISSED IT. But she’s missed it maybe even more than we have.
Céline is always earnest, she’s always emotional, but there’s an extra layer to all of it here because, as she knows better than most now, there’s never a guarantee. Somehow she found her way back. Bonne fête, Céline! Et félicitations à nous tous!
What Else happened today...
The residency, as we know it now, especially when it’s in Las Vegas, was re-standardised by Céline in 2003. Before her, it was considered a professional setback when one had to perform in Vegas – and now it’s actually seen as a career opportunity. The latest artist to announce a “residency” is BLACKPINK’s Lisa. Viva La Lisa will take place in November at the Colosseum at Caesar’s which, of course, is the house that Céline built. Lisa will become the first K-pop artist to have a residency in Vegas, obviously impressive. I do love Lisa and BLACKPINK… but can we call four shows over two a “residency”? Not trying to be a hater here, I just care about words and what they mean. (Variety)
The Fug Girls want our opinion on Malin Akerman’s shoes. I hate them. (Go Fug Yourself)
Kayleigh Donaldson on how Gen Z loves physical media and want more of it. The lo-fi life is appealing to them, in specific doses. (Pajiba)
Snake yoga is a thing in Portland and… it’s not the snakes that are the problem for me, it’s the yoga, LOL. I can get with Pilates, any time. But I have never enjoyed yoga, I know I’m in the minority. (Celebitchy)
Don’t know about you but I am obsessed with the KitKat heist. The memes have been excellent – and it’s a good mystery. Like… why THESE KitKats? Are they special edition? What made them so valuable that criminals went all Danny Ocean on this shipment? What do they plan to do with all these KitKats? Was there something else buried in the mountain of KitKats? If not, how much money can someone make off KitKats? Is this an elaborate marketing plan? (Mashable)
