Dear Gossips,

BTS’s Jin was not at Glastonbury with Coldplay which is what some ARMYs had been anticipating. As usual, though, there were a lot of celebrities at the festival, including a Mission Impossible delegation led by Tom Cruise, joined by director Christopher McQuarrie and Simon Pegg who, by the way, is a huge BTS fan.

There was, however, a special guest on stage with Coldplay at the end of the show for “Fix You”: Michael J Fox. This is the band’s big power ballad and if you haven’t already, read The Ringer’s defence of the song, that it “deserves a better legacy”. I think there are a lot of reasons why people dump on Coldplay – partly because it’s been a loooong time since they’ve put out music that is as good as their early work, and partly because there are some who consider them cheeseballs, but I also wonder whether or not, specifically where “Fix You” is concerned, it’s the Gwyneth Paltrow connection. Chris Martin wrote the song to comfort her after her dad died – another thing on her long list of brags, LOL.

Personally I don’t f-ck with Coldplay as hard as I used to. But I do LOVE “Fix You”. And the performance at Glastonbury ripped my heart out. When you realise that Michael J Fox is there, the moment he kicks out his leg and the fireworks explode? I am a mess!

I’ve attached the full video below and it’s worth your watch when you have a chance. To bring it back to BTS, they covered “Fix You” in 2021 for MTV Unplugged. It was pretty much the first anniversary of COVID, we were all still shellshocked after a whole f-cking year of being at home and away from the people we love and lonely and confused, and it’s one of the reasons so many people found solace in this group during that time. I’ve attached this too.

As for Jin? Not at Glastonbury but he’ll soon to be headed to Paris. There are reports out of Korea that he’s been invited to be an Olympic torch bearer later this month. Look out for those crowds along his route.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
