PROGRAMMING NOTE: Today is our last posting day of the week ahead of Labour Day weekend. We will be dark Thursday and Friday as our team is taking two extra days to rest; because starting on Tuesday, we probably won’t be getting much rest as Sarah and I will both be covering the Toronto International Film Festival and there’s also NY Fashion Week that starts around the same time and the VMAs and the Emmys are f-cking happening on the last weekend of TIFF. So we’re staring down a really busy time and we need to build up our tanks as much as we can before they get depleted by the upcoming entertainment calendar.
However, the chats will remain open at The Squawk and I’ll be hanging out over there through the long weekend, especially if a big story breaks – this is where I’ll be.

Sigourney Weaver received the Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement Award in Venice tonight and in her remarks you could tell how thrilled she was to have been honoured. During the press conference beforehand she also got emotional when reflecting on the impact her work has had on women, and possibly even one woman in particular who is trying to become the president of the United States. Ripley is considered by many to be one of the greatest characters in movie history and it’s not an overstatement to stay that she represented a new possibility for how women could see themselves on screen and off. Over in Angoulême, France, Kristin Scott Thomas is also doing the festival thing and wore a pretty off-the-shoulder dress that might also be a jumpsuit and I really do like the off-the-shoulder thing but I don’t f-ck with them because you can’t wear a sports bra. (Go Fug Yourself)
While Taylor Swift has yet to endorse any candidate, many of her fans showed up in virtually last night in support of Vice President Kamala Harris – 26,000 of them, apparently. Swifties For Kamala were on Zoom last night with politicians and musicians and they brought their Swift puns. (The Cut)
In Touch Weekly’s latest make-a-story is about how Angelina Jolie and Colin Farrell sparked all those years ago and could be sparking again because she still has a crush on him. I don’t believe this. But I want to believe it. Mostly though, I’m including this in today’s link roundup because there are new photos of him without his shirt on after a yoga class and I want them to sit on top of the site while we’re off for a few days. As mentioned, I’ll be trying to get as much rest as possible this weekend so that will include sleeping, golfing, doing nothing on my new couch that I love so much, and maybe a little baking. I’ve never, ever baked zucchini bread. Should I try? These recipes look good. (Eater)
