As mentioned a couple of weeks ago – click here for a refresher - the Best Actor race right now, early in the game, is between Colin Firth and George Clooney for their performances in A Single Man and Up In The Air respectively.

Colin however has just surged ahead. Just announced, Firth will receive the Outstanding Performance of the Year Award from the Santa Barbara Film Festival in February, less than a month before the Oscars, putting him firmly in the lead. This is great news. Amazing news. But it comes with some annoying news.

Because Harvey Weinstein is now running the show on A Single Man marketing. So Colin is Harvey’s man this season and becoming a Harvey favourite carries a price, unless Daniel Day-Lewis suddenly emerges from the pack for Nine. And then Harvey will have to choose.

I love DDL, but he already has two. Colin for the win. Colin + Livia > Clooney + Italian Queen.
