Last night, Doja Cat dropped a sugary, disco-inspired new track, “Kiss Me More”, featuring SZA. It’s the first single from her third studio album, Planet HER, due out this summer. She’s delivered verses on a few tracks in 2021, including Ariana Grande’s “34+35 (Remix)” and Saweetie’s “Best Friend”, which is currently in the Billboard top 20 and climbing, but “Kiss Me More” marks her first big follow-up to last year’s smash hit “Say So”, and I love it. Wanting your significant other to kiss you more is such a cute concept for a song. You know when you’ve been dating someone for a while and you get nostalgic about when you first got together and would make out all the time? Like, can you just kiss me more? Here’s how Doja sets the scene with her opening lines:

“We hug and yes, we make love

And always just say, "Goodnight"

And we cuddle, sure I do love it

But I need your lips on mine”

Just as ethereal as the song itself, the music video is directed by Warren Fu and features Alex Landi as an astronaut who crash lands on Planet HER. How often do we see an Asian man playing the hot dude in a music video? And it comes during a time when anti-AAPI hate crimes are on the rise.

Alex has been playing a doctor on Grey’s Anatomy (the first male Asian doctor) for three seasons now and he also has a recurring gig on the CW’s Walker Texas Ranger reboot… and obviously he’s hot.

With “Kiss Me More”, Doja’s given us a serious Song of the Summer contender and a reason to catch up on Grey’s Anatomy.
