The Ellen DeGeneres Show will be back for a new season on September 21 and now Ellen has released a statement that she will be addressing her controversial summer when she returns. Which makes sense – that’s her platform to address her audience, the loyal audience that’s made her a major power play on television – in other words, even though this is on camera, it’s also her safest space. Ellen’s viewers aren’t leaving her. Haven’t we established this already? What matters is what she chooses to put in front of them, and the change she can effect from it. That, hopefully, is the mandate. (Dlisted)
Today’s installment of Cate Blanchett’s Venice Film Festival wardrobe: a flouffy dress that’s worn with a blazer, deliberately. I say deliberately because sometimes when we see someone in a gown and they’re wearing a black blazer on top, it’s for temperature and not for style. As in something to drape over your shoulders because you’re cold and not for the actual look. This blazer is part of the look. And Cate’s one of the few who can pull it off. (Go Fug Yourself)
After 20 seasons, there will be no more keeping up. At least not on television. But definitely on social media. It makes no sense for there to be a gap between shooting the show and then editing and then going to broadcast months later – by then everybody’s onto another storyline and you can do the same sh-t on Instagram or TikTok or whatever new thing the kids are trying to hide from us now. This cat knows what it’s doing. Because a ramen egg is the sh-t. God I love a ramen egg. And they’re so easy to make, I used to just keep seven or eight of them in the fridge, for whenever. Why don’t I do this anymore? Why haven’t I done it since pandemic lockdown started? It’s not like I don’t have ramen several times a week. (OMG Blog)
I want to live inside Roxane Gay’s head but reading her diary is the next best thing. (Vanity Fair)
