Dear Gossips,
Last night I hosted the first #AudibleBookClub in Canada featuring Rachael Allen’s book A Taxonomy Of Love. Rachael came in from Atlanta to join us and one of the biggest highlights of the night, for me, was introducing Rachael to Sahara, 16, a big fan of young adult fiction, and a big, big, big fan of A Taxonomy Of Love. It was Sahara who opened our discussion, sharing with the rest of the group how she related to the characters, how familiar their frustrations and stumbles and anxieties were, and what stories like these mean to her. But they’re not exclusive to her.
We had five generations of women represented at our book club last night - women in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s, all of us hanging out, along with Sahara, participating in a conversation about identity, neurodiversity, racism, family, friendship, and love. It’s impossible for me to be cool about this. Because it was a beautiful experience. This is the kind of community that a good book can create around it.
To celebrate the conclusion of the first #AudibleBookClub, Audible is giving you a chance win an Audible membership including 12 Audible credits (ARV $149.50). Rules and details here. No purchase necessary. Good luck and thank you to everyone who took part.
As for Sahara, she writes poetry on her blog, and she has a YouTube channel, and maybe one day soon, there will be people listening to her work on Audible, and book clubs gathering to analyse her work.
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
