Dear Gossips,
Every Golden Globes weekend is a big deal. But there’s an added layer of big dealness to this year’s Golden Globes because it’s the first major award show to happen since Hollywood has had to start seriously reckoning with its festering sexual harassment problem. Over 300 women in Hollywood have worked over the last few months to launch Time’s Up, an initiative that aims to challenge “systemic inequality and injustice in the workplace that have kept underrepresented groups from reaching their full potential”. In support of those efforts, many if not most of the celebrities attending the Golden Globes on Sunday will likely be addressing the issue on the red carpet. Seth Meyers will likely be addressing the issue during his opening remarks. It’s expected that several winners will be addressing the issue during their acceptance speeches.
So we’ll have all of that to talk about during our coverage of the Globes. All that on top of the all-black fashion statement. The Golden Globes, every year, is an all-nighter for us. Duana, Kathleen, and I will be tweeting through the show (@laineygossip, @duanaelise, @kathleennb) and we are aiming to get our first articles up on the site by 2am ET and posting overnight and through the day until we get it all covered. The site will be heavy on Monday so if you’re hitting us up in the morning, please scroll back to get caught up. If you’re not sleeping either, join us in real time!
OK but seriously, do you think there will be a tiara? As I mentioned yesterday, this is what Duana’s predicting, that there will be extra focus on the makeup and the hair and the jewels this year because of the all-black dress code. Like “tiaras and sh-t”. You know who wore a tiara during award season last year and who we’ll be really missing this year?
Ruth Negga at the Oscars, remember?
Have a great weekend!
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
