Dear Gossips,

What’s the most famous Oscar dress of all time? Near the top of that list has to be Halle Berry in Elie Saab. She made history in that dress, becoming the first Black women to win the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Monster’s Ball. But also, because of that achievement, we all know Elie Saab.

Halle winning in that gown was a “watershed moment for Middle Eastern designers”. As Elie told Vogue Australia in 2019:

Halle Berry made the name Elie Saab more popular… She managed to really put the name Elie Saab on the international market. [That time] was a better time for cinema in general. [Halle Berry] was the first woman of colour [to receive the Oscar award for Best Actress in 2001]… It was elegant and daring and chic. I think this moment was a very exceptional moment for cinema.”

Last night in Saudi Arabia, the brand staged a fashion show for the collection “1001 Seasons of Elie Saab”, the same night that Halle met Elie 22 years ago. And Halle knew she was about to crush it. Because a few hours before the event, she posted this:

As the kids say, she was cooking AND she ate! Look at this goddess!

That’s 2024. So let me show you 2002, just in case you forgot.

She did us a favour wearing her hair up last night because if she didn’t, we wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. This… is UNFAIR.

Yours in gossip,
