Halsey revealed yesterday that she’s expecting her first child, in a series of Instagram snaps from a backyard maternity shoot. Perched in front of a white and purple (thankfully not pink and blue) silk backdrop, the singer’s bump is on full display in a pair of boyfriend jeans and a crocheted rainbow top because she couldn’t be happier that this is her “rainbow baby.”
In March 2019, Halsey revealed in a now-deleted tweet that she has endometriosis and because of it she’s had three miscarriages and four surgeries. Her last album, Maniac, features a song called “More,” which puts into words the pain of not being able to carry a pregnancy to term — opening on the imagery of “nothing grows when a house ain’t a home.” All the no’s, it won’t happen, you can’t have children, only made her want a child more.
About a year ago she told The Guardian: “It’s the most inadequate I’ve ever felt. Here I am achieving this out-of-control life, and I can’t do the one thing I’m biologically put on this earth to do. Then I have to go onstage and be this sex symbol of femininity and empowerment? It is demoralizing.”
But at the time, she also told the outlet that after years of medical appointments, motherhood was starting to look like a real possibility, calling it “a miracle.”

In her Instagram announcement she tagged Alev Aydin, a writer-director whom she’s been dating for a while now after being friends for several years. He commented on the pic, writing, ”Heart so full, I love you, sweetness,” with Halsey replying, ”I love you!!!!! And I love this mini human already!” Since the fall, she and Alev have spent all their time together and she even dedicated an Instagram post to him on New Year’s Eve, writing “I love you so much” in Turkish — his native language. Back in June they got matching tattoos in each other’s handwriting. Cute, except what does “seeds” mean? Baby seed?
