Carey Mulligan is promoting The Ballad of Wallis Island opening in limited release in the US this weekend. The film currently has a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the trailer looks charming and sweet, and … well… it’s Carey Mulligan, she is always watchable. She was even watchable in Maestro, a movie I did not care for.
Carey was at Jimmy Kimmel yesterday, arriving in a badass black set, highlighted by an exquisite jacket which she took off on camera, revealing a one shoulder jumpsuit. This is Bottega Veneta and credit to Andrew Mukamal, her stylist, for once again keeping her in black but never boring.
As for the interview, much of it, hilariously, was about Marcus Mumford. She is delightful, and I could watch her talk forever, and I just realised I have loved her now for over 15 years, since An Education. And I cannot wait to see her in season two of Beef (co-starring Oscar Isaac) because this will be another dimension of Carey’s creative fury. We saw one version of it in Promising Young Woman. Beef will give her another opportunity to explore rage in a different form.
I bring this up because she talks about her role, a little, at the end of the interview.
What else happened today…
Haven’t watched Survivor since season two… maybe? That was a LONG time ago, and it’s still around, and a lot of people are still into it. So they’re doing something right. And this scene I just watched was very, very, very right. I don’t know how often this happens on the show but it’s exactly the kind of reality we need more of, especially now. (Pajiba)
I am very rarely mad at a big bow and this white one against a black dress that Kristin Chenoweth has on is definitely not making me mad, it’s adorable. (Go Fug Yourself)
Gayle King is talking about her upcoming flight to space. She wants us to be happy for her. I am happy for her because this is obviously what she wants to do. This is never what I would want to do, I would sh-t myself on that rocket. (Hollywood Unlocked)
Is Jeremy Renner not checking his DMs or something? Because Jessica Simpson is in his comments trying to get his attention. (Celebitchy)
Zayn Malik marked the ten year anniversary of his leaving One Direction with a song selection that made them all cry at his show. (Vulture)
