It was reported yesterday that Idris Elba is in talks to join the cast of the live-action film adaptation of Cats to be directed by Tom Hooper, also starring Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen, James Corden, and Taylor Swift. Idris is apparently considering the role of Macavity, the bad cat.
Everything about this movie makes me anxious. Probably because I’m lacking some imagination here. Like, I know what Cats looks like on stage. What does it look like in a live-action movie? Are they all getting dressed up in bodysuits – or catsuits? ha! – with furry heads and Halloween makeup? Is it CGI? I’m so confused. Duana wonders if it might be like Guardians of the Galaxy, with “some makeup, some CGI, some human people”. If that’s the case, who’s the Groot of Cats?
Cats is due December 2019. A holiday movie. Specifically, it comes out December 20, 2019. You know what else comes out that day? A tiny little movie. Very, very small. Star Wars: Episode IX. Counterprogramming: if you’re not into Star Wars, how about some singing cats? I can’t wait to see this trailer. Is there going to be a lot of prowling? I think I want the prowling. I want a visual of Idris Elba and Taylor Swift prowling up an alley together. Maybe the live-action version of prowling is a strut down a runway.
