Dear Gossips,

I was in a used bookstore in London last summer and came upon a copy of the screenplay for Notting Hill. I LOVE Notting Hill. Sometimes it gets funnier and funnier to me. Really Hugh Grant at his best. Anyway, the book (which offers some pretty great insight about how screenplays become films) included an introduction from screenwriter Richard Curtis and a delightfully bitchy and hilarious afterward by Hugh Grant himself. I remember standing there reading it, laughing uncontrollably, and surprisingly impressed by what a wonderful writer he is. Very natural, very funny, very dry, very grumpy, very much his own voice. So you’ve heard about this phone tapping scandal in the UK? It’s pretty dirty. And fascinating. One of the main players in the whole affair was actually the director of communications for the Prime Minister! This is why I love the British and am such an anglophile: their contradictions. They made a big ass deal of Michelle Obama “breaking royal protocol” because she hugged the Queen, but a former editor of the News of the World, only their smuttiest paper, somehow becomes the mouthpiece of the political party that’s running the country? It’s f-cking amazing.

How does this relate to Hugh Grant? Well his phone was bugged too. So then he decided to bug another reporter and write an article about it and, you know, he should tell the story to you himself. It’s awesomely entertaining. More of this please and less of Did You Hear About The Morgans. Click here to read the article.

Am blogging all day today and there shouldn’t be any interruption but am using an air card from my ma’s room so the connection can get kinda wonky. Just in case there’s a bigger than usual gap between articles.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
