Intro for Jun 17, 2011
Dear Gossips,
I saw the most wonderful film on the plane yesterday that I had such a hard time finding in Vancouver. Then I made Jacek watch it and he loved it too. Bill Cunningham New York. Cunningham is, currently, of course, of The New York Times but above all he is THE fashion historian. On his bike, riding around the city, connecting fashion not with the privileged, but where the clothes meet the wearer. Anna Wintour actually gushes when she talks about him. And reveals that he can and has JUDGED her. Anna Wintour judged? Yes. By Bill Cunningham. It’s amazing. He’s amazing. Where he lives, how he’s lived, how he works, why he works, who he’s worked with...
These characters. The personalities. The ballet dancing (this part is HILARIOUS). The stories they tell. And him. It’s a fascinating portrait of New York, of the evolution of style, of an enigmatic man who some in the industry have called the “most important person on the planet”. If you have a chance, I promise you will love it.
Have a great weekend!
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
