Dear Gossips,

Morley reminded me of this video just a few weeks ago. It’s from 2004 at Meryl Streep’s AFI Lifetime Achievement Award gala. Nora Ephron was one of the speakers. If you’ve not seen it before you’ll love it. She’s funny, of course, obviously. But she’s funny because she took the time to write it. She probably spent a few hours, maybe days, writing it, taking care with it like a scene in a film, measuring the exact timing so that the jokes landed perfectly. And here is the result - a smart, concise, and hilarious tribute to a dear friend, from one remarkable woman to another. It’s one thing to be honoured. It’s another to be honoured by someone who knows, you know?

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
